KEVIN Brennan, has welcomed extra funding for a vital third sector organisation in Cardiff West which helps people with learning difficulties.
The new grant will help Vision 21 in Fairwater recruit and train new volunteers to educate and train the people who attend the organisation.
"Vision 21 has provided a valuable service to Cardiff West for a number of years," said Mr Brennan.
"The organisation offers people with a disability the opportunity to undertake vocational training with a view to employment
"I visited Vision 21 in 2009 and saw first hand the difference they are making to so many people's lives.
"This funding of £10,000 will be of great benefit to the Vision 21 centres in Cardiff, Newport and the Vale of Glamorgan."
The money has been awarded through the Volunteering in Wales Fund, which is run by Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA), and helps to recruit and train volunteers to help charities across Wales.
Jamie Harris, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Vision 21 said, "The grant we have received from WCVA will allow us to train over 30 new volunteers to support and mentor the people participating in our vocational training.
"All of our social enterprise projects operate as a real work situation. The catering projects are real cafes, the retail project is a shop, the horticulture project is a garden centre and so on.
"This ensures that our training is realistic to the type of job which people might move on to, and it maximises the opportunity to increase confidence and break down social barriers.
"Volunteers are vital because they bring new skills and ideas to our projects as well as helping to deliver them.
"We've also found that people who have been made redundant or are finding it impossible to find secure employment in the current climate really benefit from the volunteering opportunities we provide."
