0 UK Government should finally drop boundary changes

KEVIN Brennan MP has labelled the UK coalition Government's programme a shambles and is urging David Cameron to drop his Government's proposed boundary changes once and for all after their Lib Dem partners vowed to vote against changes.

Under the UK Government's current proposals they would reduce the number of Welsh MPs by 25% and in the process change the Parliamentary constituency boundaries of Wales.

Mr Brennan believes a strong representation of Welsh MPs is needed in Parliament.

"The coaltion Government is a shambles from their half-hearted attempt at Lords reform to the Lib Dems finally seeing sense on the Tories' attempts to gerrymander the next general election through boundary changes," said Kevin.

"The UK Government's plans to change boundaries would have resulted in Wales losing 25% of its MPs and in the process reducing Welsh voices and influence in Parliament.

"Stong Welsh representation in Parliament is vital as the recent success of Welsh opposition MPs pushing the Government to electrify the London to Swansea rail line proves.

"The UK Government only wanted to electrify part of the line but with a strong representation of Welsh MPs we managed to push the Government to reconsider their plans.

"This is why losing 25% of Welsh MPs would be a hammer blow to Wales because we need a strong voice in Westminster.

"This was an outrageous piece of gerrymandering by the Tory party who acted in their own political interest rather than reflecting the needs of the public or communities and I call on them to drop these plans."
