LOCAL MP, Kevin Brennan, has welcomed the news that Wales' National History Museum will receive the biggest ever lottery grant in Wales after backing the museum's bid for the funding.
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announced an investment of £11.5 million and the Welsh Government will fund an extra £6 million to help the museum build on its incredible popularity and success with numerous new developments and upgrades.
The first phase of the project will see the construction of a multi-purpose building which includes a gallery and activity space, a window to the open air archaeology facilities, and visitor facilities such as a cafe.
"As someone who has always supported St Fagans Museum and backed their lottery bids I am delighted the HLF and the Welsh Government will be making such a significant investment," said Mr Brennan.
"This will not only enhance the visitor experience but will also allow the museum to increase exhibits and galleries providing an even bigger indepth look in to Welsh history and life.
"Last year St Fagans was voted the top visitor attraction in the UK and when you visit the museum it is not hard to see why it deserves such an accolade.
"Every year the museum has something new to offer and that is why people come back year on year.
"The museum is much more than tourist attraction and is continuing to prove to be a valuable resource to schools up and down Wales.
"I would urge anyone to take advantage of this amazing visitor attraction during the summer holidays and I look forward to visiting once again to see how these developments are taking shape."
