Welsh Secretary confirms backing for new jobs in Cardiff West: 25th January 2002
Responding to a question asked by Kevin Brennan, MP for Cardiff West, the Secretary of State for Wales, Paul Murphy MP, has pledged his support to the redevelopment of the former Arjo Wiggins Paper Mill site. Asked by Mr Brennan if he would ‘pledge the full weight of his Department to work in partnership with the Assembly and the local authority to get the maximum job potential out of the site', the Welsh Secretary responded in the affirmative. Speaking during Welsh Questions, in the House of Commons, Mr Murphy said that the project was a good example of a working partnership ‘between a Labour Government and a Labour led Administration in Cardiff' which would secure ‘1000 jobs and 1000 new homes' for Cardiff West. Mr Brennan said last night ‘I am delighted with the backing I received from the Secretary of state in the House of Commons. The Ely Paper Mill site is close to an area where there is a need for new, well-paid jobs. This is an important project for the young people of Cardiff West who deserve the opportunity to aspire towards good, well-paid jobs in the future.' |
