Something of the Moonlight in Howard’s Shadow Cabinet: 12th November 2003
Michael Howard’s new shadow cabinet members hold a dazzling array of second, third and fourth jobs in addition to the superbriefs handed out by the Conservative leader, according to research published today by Kevin Brennan Labour MP for Cardiff West. In addition to the Shadow Chancellor Oliver Letwin’s role as a “permanent employee” of N.M. Rothschild Corporate Finance Ltd, other Shadow Cabinet members hold paid posts with a potential for conflicts of interests. Publishing a list compiled from the House of Commons Register of Members Interests, Mr Brennan said “Some of these posts raise serious questions of conflict. Tim Yeo has registered his interest as Non Executive Chairman of Univent PLC, an operator of nursing homes for the elderly. “Like Oliver Letwin, Tim Yeo has to answer how he can fill the enormous pair of briefs handed to him by Michael Howard and still have outside interests which directly relate to his huge portfolios “From the list I am publishing today it is clear that Mr Howard’s Shadow Cabinet has something of the Moonlight about it |
