Kevin Brennan MP Condemns The Liberal Democrat Controlled Council As They Announce Cuts To Youth Ser
Kevin Brennan MP Condemns The Liberal Democrat Controlled Council As They Announce Cuts To Youth Services: 25th February 2005 Cardiff West MP Kevin Brennan today praised Ely residents and traders for taking a stand against anti-social behaviour in their community, but criticised Cardiff council for cutting youth facilities.

After a meeting today called by Mr Brennan following a petition from Ely residents, he said:

“To tackle anti-social behaviour everyone needs to work together including the local council. Ely residents have taken the initiative with my support and that of the local police and Crown Prosecution service. Sadly the council did not send a representative to the meeting and have now announced savage cuts in youth services”.

The Liberal Democrat council has recently voted to cut the number of youth workers in Cardiff, introduce charges at youth centres, scrap the Ely mobile youth centre bus and cut leisure centre opening times.

Said Mr Brennan: “We need to be tough on crime and on the causes of crime
