MP Demands Council Come Clean On Closure Plans

Kevin Brennan MP for Cardiff West today demanded that the Lib Dem Council come clean on its plans for schools in Cardiff after leaked reports suggested Radyr Comprehensive School might be marked for closure.

A former teacher and Head of Economics & Business studies at Radyr Comp, Kevin Brennan said: "Education is supposed to be about learning lessons, but the Lib Dems appear to have learnt absolutely nothing from the almighty cock-up they made of this last year.

"It’s time that Council Leader Rodney Berman and his colleagues came clean to parents about their plans for school closures. It’s a difficult issue that is only being made worse by the inept bungling of the Council to date.

"We need transparent and open consultation so that the people of Cardiff have confidence in the decision-making procedure even if they disagree with the final plans, not secret selective briefings which leak to the Press, and cause anxiety to teachers, parents and pupils.

"The Council must release their plans for consultation so that we can put an end to the rumour mill and start to address one of the most serious long-term issues that faces the people of Cardiff."
