Kevin's Post Column
I recently had the pleasure of celebrating the end of Ramadan at Welsh Labour’s fantastic annual Eid party. As with previous years is was hugely successful and well attended and is an encouraging sign of continued involvement of Muslims within Welsh Labour and wider society. Each year the event has gained in success and it shows what can happen when politicians reach out into the communities they represent. Cardiff is a fantastically diverse city and I’m proud to represent a constituency that has such an enormous variety of languages, cultures, beliefs and celebrations that add to the rich tapestry of our communities. That is not to say that sometimes there are not tensions between our communities. But it is clear to me that we each have more in common than we do apart – yes, we may disagree from time to time, and that can be a healthy part of a fair and democratic society. But when it comes down to it what really matters is our shared vision of a fair, prosperous and united society where every person has opportunity and hope.
