It's a great privilege to be re-elected as the MP for Cardiff West and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me. I have always been proud to represent this constituency and I'm already looking forward to getting back to the day job of working hard for my constituents.
Despite the Tories initially polling as favourites in Cardiff West I received 26,425 votes, with an increased majority of 12,551 and a 56.67% share of the vote. I could not have been able to achieve this without the considerable help, support and hard work of so many party members and volunteers in helping to get our positive vision and message out there. Thank you to all those that helped from those who knocked doors in the pouring rain to the members of the public who showed their support with boards and posters.
I would like to dedicate this win in Cardiff West to my late predecessor Rhodri Morgan who launched my campaign and sadly passed away on May 17. This year is the 30th anniversary year of Rhodri winning back Cardiff West from the Tories, it's been Labour ever since. I will be thinking of him today.
