Cardiff University's catalysis and compound semiconducter research

Cardiff West MP, Kevin Brennan, recently visited Cardiff University's Institute for Compound Semiconductors (ICS) which provides cutting-edge facilities for researchers and industry.

The ICS hub is a unique UK facility, which fabricates and tests technology in realistic environments. Compound semiconductors drive the devices and technologies we use today, from smartphones and tablets to satellite communications and GPS.

Speaking after the event, Mr Brennan said Cardiff University's Institute for Compound Semiconductors was very impressive.

"Compound Semiconductors are a very important technology and will play an important part in the UK's economic and industrial growth," said Kevin.

"The Welsh Government are set to invest £12 million into ICS for key equipment which is fantastic news for high level manufacturing in Wales.

"Cardiff University already has a worldwide reputation for research and this will certainly build on that reputation."
